Afghanistan Center for Commercial Dispute Resolution (“ACDR”) and Directorate General of Public Private Partnership (DG-PPP), Ministry of Finance, held a joint training on “Arbitration and ACDR’s role in resolution of commercial disputes in Afghanistan” and “Public Private Partnership” on 6th Nov 2019.

In the beginning of the training the Executive Director of ACDR, Zahid Omarzai, gave a presentation on ACDR’s role in resolution of commercial disputes in Afghanistan for the participants which was followed by a comprehensive presentation of Mr. Samim Wakman, Head of Legal Unit & Sr. Legal Specialist at DG-PPP, about legal framework for PPP in Afghanistan.

The technical sessions included presentations by ACDR Arbitrators, Dr. Ahmad Khalid Hatam and Ms. Freshta Zuhal Rahman. The technical sessions of the training began with the presentation of Dr. Khalid Hatam about “Introduction to Arbitration”. The mentioned session included case studies for better understanding of the topics by the participants.

The second technical session was led by Ms. Rahman who gave a presentation on “Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards”. The presentation included the legal framework on enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in Afghanistan, the challenges of enforcement and practical solutions to overcome the challenges.

In the end of the training, there was a Q&A session with ACDR Arbitrators. During the mentioned session ACDR arbitrators provided detailed answers to the participants on questions related to ADR and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in Afghanistan.
