ACDR Executive Director
Zahid Omarzai is a law graduate and a licensed attorney by Afghanistan Independent Bar Association. Prior to joining ACDR as the Executive Director, Mr. Omarzai has worked as Associate Attorney with RIAA Barker Gillette Afghanistan which is an international law firm and also a leading law firm in Afghanistan. In this capacity, Mr. Omarzai’s primary practice areas were Commercial Law, Corporate Law and Civil Law. Furthermore, in his previous experience in this role, he has advised wide range of national and international clients on Afghan law and have also worked on provision of an expert opinion on the issues related to Civil Liability to a US Federal Court.
Mr. Omarzai has also published an Article entitled “An Overview of Arbitration in Afghanistan – A Practical Approach”. In this Article, he has analyzed the arbitration regime in Afghanistan and suggested solutions to overcome the barriers in enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in Afghanistan.
Mr. Omarzai has also represented Afghanistan in the world’s most prestigious competition on Arbitration i.e. Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (“Vis Moot”) in 2016. Furthermore, he has coached several private and government universities of Afghanistan for the Vis Moot. After working as a manager for Afghanistan Vis Alumni Network (AVAN) for two years, he is currently the Country Director of AVAN, in this role he manages and administers participation of universities from 7 different provinces of Afghanistan in national, regional and international competitions of Vis Moot.
